Laryngeal videostroboscopy to Assess Voice

The use of videostroboscopy to assess voice disorders is an evidence-based procedure that provides the speech-language pathologist with a slow-motion, magnified view of the vocal cords. It allows the speech-language pathologist to assess a number of vocal parameters and identify irregular motion and other conditions of the vocal folds. Patients benefit from a voice evaluation with videostroboscopy to:

  • Identify the cause of voice dysfunction or hoarseness

  • Visualize and evaluate the function of your vocal cords during silent breathing and during phonation

  • Detect vocal cord lesions and other irregularities like inflammation, scar tissue or muscle tension conditions

Louisiana Voice & Swallow Solutions provides voice evaluations for children, teens, and adults. Common indications for an evaluation include:

  • Ongoing hoarseness or prolonged laryngitis

  • Feeling out of breath while engaging in conversation

  • Difficulty increasing the volume of your voice

  • Experiencing a tight or strained vocal quality

  • Voice changes related to progressive neurological disorders such as Parkinson's Disease
